Men’s Lacrosse Q&A
February 11th, 2010 by Blair CappsLast week, some of you posted questions for coach Dom Starsia and the men’s lacrosse team. After several re-schedules, cancellations, and one trek through the snow, I finally have your answers.
HoozZAt asked : “Very young attack. Do you anticipate running an “attack by committee”, with 3-4 players rotating through 2 spots (I’m assuming Stanwick will be always on the field) throughout the season or would you prefer to settle on a more regular line-up as the season progresses?”
Dom Starsia: “I think we’re clearly going to be looking at a work in progress for a while [so] I would describe the situation as fluid especially early in the season. Maybe not in too much of a guarded way, I’m confident that we’re going to get better as the season goes on. We have some young guys that have some work to do and it’s going to take a little bit of time for that to come together as much as we would like it to. So clearly early in the season we’re going to run some people through and let things kind of play out and it will probably take shape as the season goes on.”
HoozZat also asked: “How have some of the highly hyped freshmen acclimated to the D1 level of play based on practice/scrimmages?”
Starsia: “I think all the attackmen are sort of in play and doing a nice job. Harry Prevas on defense has been a surprise, but freshman middie Chris LaPierre is going to do a little bit of everything for us. We’ve asked a lot of him and just in what we’ve done so far, and he seems up to the task in every situation. I think the entire team has some confidence that he’s going to make plays for us.”
1moreUVAfan: “I’d like to ask Captain Ken Clausen if the defense is going to be more physical this year. I believe that is our key to winning a [National Championship].”
Ken Clausen: “I’ve heard about people commenting on that. I think we have a more physical unit than we’ve had in the past. We want to play that way, we want to defend Adam better. If teams are going to force it inside, we’re going to make them pay for it. It’s been a focus to be more physical. It’s something we have been working on a great deal. Having someone like Bray [Malphrus] playing midfield for us, he brings a big physical side to that. Matt Lovejoy brings a big physical presence as well.”
laxhoos, I asked your question about rides and recovering. I don’t want to say that Coach Starsia “sidestepped” the question, but he ended up telling me a lot about the depth at midfield instead.
Starsia: “I think midfield is one of the positions we are the deepest and the most experienced. Right now, especially, it’s the midfield that drives this team. I think we can get the ball quickly from defense to offense. I also think we should be very good getting back on defense.”
wahoowa9, look for the answer to your question in my season preview on the EDGE.
Thanks for your questions everyone! Get excited for the Georgetown scrimmage this Saturday!
