Notable Weekend Visitors

September 2nd, 2012 by Chris Horne

- Crespi (Encino, CA) senior point guard London Perrantes arrived in Charlottesville on Friday night for the start of his official visit.  This official is Perrantes’ first ever experience at UVa, and it is also the first of four planned official visits.

The 6’1″ Perrantes, one of ESPN.com’s Top 100 recruits in the nation in the class of 2013, next plans to visit Washington State.  Illinois and Arizona State will get the final two officials with a decision expected to come in early October.

I hope to catch up with London in the coming days for thoughts on his Virginia experience.

- There wasn’t a huge turnout numbers-wise on the football recruiting front, but at least four commits – Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) quarterback Turtle Cutler, Good Counsel (Olney, MD) cornerback/wide receiver Kirk Garner, Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) tailback Smoke Mizzell, and Salisbury School (Salisbury, CT) offensive tackle Sadiq Olanrewaju —  and St. Christopher’s (Richmond, VA) sophomore Ricky DeBerry, Jr. were confirmed to be in attendance for UVa’s win over Richmond.

Mizzell, UVa’s newest and most highly rated recruit in the class of 2013, was in Charlottesville for the first time since announcing his commitment on August 21.  The 5’10″, 190-pound prospect is rated a 5-star recruit by Rivals.com.  He is the no. 3 senior in the state in TheSabre.com’s Preseason Top 40.

Garner, a 4-star recruit by Rivals, was on hand to watch his cousin, sophomore wide receiver E.J. Scott, play for the Hoos.

DeBerry Jr., who looks very impressive at 6’2″, 225 pounds, is a promising prospect in the class of 2015.  He saw action at running back, linebacker and defensive end his freshman year.  Check out his highlight film here.
