Pitt week: Here we go, Wanny, here we go!

September 26th, 2007 by Mahini

Dave WannstedtWill Al Groh kill the career of another fellow coach? It’s almost like he’s the undead — despite being left for worm food by most pundits, Groh continues to roam the earth to feed off the soul of other coaches. And he’s growing stronger with each kill.

So, a fellow ex-NFL-coach-let’s-give-the-college-thing-a-try-hey–look-my-alma-mater-is-hiring! is coming to town, and he might be Groh’s latest victim in a trail of coaching corpses. Indeed, Dave Wannstedt is getting excoriated by his local media and feeling his own buns getting warm. Wasn’t the Big East supposed to become an easy conference that Pitt could dominate? Instead, Rutgers is ascending. At least Groh doesn’t have to deal with a resurgent Duke team in the conference (pay no attention to that Demon Deacon in the corner). So a (humiliating?) loss to a team that (1) Pitt dominated last year, and (2) look godawful in its last OOC game might not sit pretty with those who make the hiring and firing decisions in Pittsburgh.

So, time to kick off Pitt Week. And put on a pot of coffee, this game is going to be a late one.
