Rumors started swirling on the Edge board last night, and now Jeff White is backing it up:

Good news for basketball coach Dave Leitao’s program appears imminent. Assane Sene, a 7-footer from Senegal, is expected to commit to Virginia, and an announcement could come as early as Tuesday.

Sene, who attends South Kent (Conn.) School, has taken official visits to U.Va., Connecticut and, most recently, Syracuse…

His visit to Charlottesville last month gave Virginia a commanding lead over the other schools recruiting him.

Sene (Edge profile) would be Dave Leitao’s third big recruiting haul in a row after Sylvan Landesberg (video) and John Brandenburg (blog profile). This is an odd feeling: A Virginia basketball program actually getting its top targets? And over traditional basketball powers? And big men to boot? Wow, what’s next? That the football team will win a big conference road game … oh, yeah, never mind!

Anyway, the last remaining target is a big one: Elliot “E-mail” Williams.
